- O-number and W-number in US forces denotes pay grade.
- US Warrant Officers are technical and tactical leaders who specialize, throughout an entire career, in a specific technical area, and usually have no command authority except in their specialty, e.g., as an aircraft pilot. Their benefits are roughly comparable to those of commissioned officers. USAF does not currently have Warrant Officers, but US Army has several as helicopter pilots.
